Bonjour, mes amis, Well, what an uproar! A simple little welcome for the new Swiss regiment and you’d think we’d commited some monstrous act. Well, it’s rumored that things got a little carried away after Louis and I left, but still, what a tempest in a teapot. I can’t be bothered with such trivial matters. Off to the hamlet. Au revoir, for now. M.A.

Bonjour, mes amis, this business with the Parisians continues. What a bother. Thank goodness they’re there and we are here in this beautiful countryside. I would just die if I were stuck in that stifling city. What I need is a little diversion. A small party. Yes. I think I’ll invite the beautiful and fascinating Countess de Beaumont. She and I could have so much in common except she persists in keeping company with that odious revolutionary, Gilbert Lafayette. But then they say she was a spy in the colonies before they won their independence. How scandalous and fun! Yes, she’s definitely on the list. Now, who else? Some of my favorites seem to have vanished into thin air. What is that about? Well, I’ll think about that later. I have to get ready for my fitting. So much to do. Au revoir for now, M.A.

Bonjour, mes amis,
I was having the most marvelous day, playing with my babies and picnicking at my Petite Trianon, such a sweet gift from dear Louis, when I was called back to the palace. Something about a mob attacking the Bastille prison. What a bother! I don’t understand what all the excitement is about. Those Parisians are always such troublemakers. What’s one prison more or less? Everyone is getting into such a state. And for what? All it does is cause wrinkles. I think I’ll go and pick out some new fabrics. Au revoir for now, M.A.

Bonjour, mes amis, well just between us, I’ve had very little education, not unusual for ladies of my time and class, so bear with me and forgive spelling or punctuation errors you may find. Merci beaucoup, M.A.

Bonjour, mes amis,
It is a beautiful spring day at Versailles. I’ve been enjoying it with my dear cow, Blanchette, at my peasant village called Hameau which I had built on the grounds of the palace but not too close, so I can get away from the persistent gossiping and intrigue of the people of my court. Day in and day out, it’s a bit much, if you know what I mean. Now, I must go and choose a costume for this eveing’s masquerade ball. Who or what do I want to be to night? Hmmmm. If you could be anything or anyone who would You be? Have to go. Au revoir, for now. M.A.
